I had to download the USB-to-Serial Controller 1.0.9.4 driver from Prolific for it be detected by Windows 7. Here is some info on using serial on Win7: I found I had to do that even with Win XP. Try unplugging the USB from your computer and plugging it back in. My usb to rs232 (9 pin) serial adapter (com 4) works fine with win 7. The drivers are installed and according to the device manager, all is working.īoth putty & hyperterminal in win 7 says it can not access the port. My problem now is it works perfectly on an xp rig. I am likely going to turn one of these cables into a WAN port device. I am interested in people's WAN port serial adapters. My first CA-42 had 3 wires and the ones I bought later had 5, the picture in my post above is from one of those. No there is no fixed standard for the colours of the wires and obviously not on the number of wires either.
